Where's The Work ?

A PROFESSIONAL !

Your first decision is to answer the basic question - what do you want from a career in the entertainment industry?

Money, Fame, A Second Career, Part-time job with Flexible hours - all of these are available, but you must establish the priorities.

There are two path - Money & Career, not mutally exclusive, but they determine the type of job opportunties.

If money is the objective - Modeling (especially glamour modeling and the web), is the fastest way to Cash.  If it's a Career, the web IS NOT  the answer, a tool, but it won't replace "foot power".

For the most part "Real Jobs" Are Not available through the web, most web assignments involve glamour and many ask for some degree of nudity.

Acting

Pay Your Dues !  Acting means experience (high school, college, community theatre, etc.).  A small portfolio, with a list of credits, and answering the calls for: tv, video, and the stage.  One part, and one acquaintence, can lead to the second invitation and other opportunties.

There are, of course, many professional coaches and resources to train actors - and the advantage is not just the training BUT THE CONTACTS.

Modeling

From the Web, most leads work out to be glamour assignments - glamour is defined as sensual: from sexy & naughty to total nudity.

Advertising

Few Advertising Agencies use the web to locate talent for assignments.

An agency is putting together a layout for "Teak Deck Cleaner".  They'll contact a number of the local modeling agencies with a request for "guy & gal" - mid 20's, "boating types" - "...send us 10 or 12 Zed's".  Zed's are 1 page portfolios.

Twelve agencies send 20 Zed's each - that's 240 contacts for 1 or 2 jobs!

Art Director or Talent CoOrdinator look at the Zed's and call 10 to 15 people for "Look See's" - you go in, show you portfolio, and discuss the assignment.  The Art Director then selects 10 people for "Call Backs" - a second interview where someone Maybe selected, or the last canidates are invited to meet with the client, for a final decision.

Professional & Business

It's Marketing, Marketing, Marketing !

First as a professional you want to obtain a business address & phone - Mail Boxes, etc., or any local mail services, and your cell phone meet these requirements.

Next is record keeping - KEEP A CALENDAR - and record your milage Daily.  If you want to deduct your costs for your career activities You Need Records.

If your interested in assingments beyond glamour, then you create a Zed Card (Design Services provides this service at our basic standard cost), and a trip to the library to check on the SMALLER Ad Agencies in your area.

At the library check the area registry of Ad Agencies (and you can also check with local Chamber of Commerce) - get the name of the Art Director, Talent CoOrdinator, or Owner - in a smaller shop they may all be the same - year organized, major clients, and dollars billed.

Next you Send a letter, requesting a meeting, to discuss opportunties in Barstow for models.

Send the letter on Saturday, for a Tuesday delivey, and do a Follow Up phone call on Wednesday - after lunch.

On the phone ask to speak to Mr. Jones, and if a secretary ask what it's about, "...our previous correspondence."  When you get Jones, say you'd like a "brief" meeting at his convenience, to discuss economics in Barstow.

When you arrive, DON'T take you ZED - Don't Ask For A Job - talk business, the opportunities in the area, and the economy.  ON ARRIVAL or when YOU LEAVE get the name of the receptionist.

IMMEDIATELY when you get home write a thank you note (write don't type) to Jones & the RECEPTIONIST - for a great meeting and helpful suggestions.

A week later send Jones you ZED, and ask if he has any suggestions for improvement (include a stamped envelope) - and EVERYTIME you get a job, promo, or bit part send him a brief note (and photo if available)

It's "FootPower"

At the library get a list of all the agencies with 5 or 10 miles.  Make a list of the smaller one and mail 5 to 8 letters a week.  Next week work the 10 to 13 mile circle with letters and followup.  Following week it's 13 to 17 miles.

Distances aren't important - 5 to 10 letters a week IS IMPORTANT - with the followup.
